Date: Wed, 13 Jul 2011 23:14:51 +0200 From: [name_redacted] <[address_redacted]> To: [furnet users mailing list] Subject: [Furnet-users] Complaint regarding IRCOP behaviour An open letter to the Administrators and Users of FurNet I'm writing a complaint in regards to the behaviour of the IRCOP ZetaWolf on Furnet. Today, I was issued an akill ban from FurNet for 30 days on grounds which are unknown to me, although I have my suspicions, and through a third party, have determined that I 'was issued a warning and failed to follow it'. I made an attempt to contact ZetaWolf after my ban to confirm that he is the issuer of my ban, and to ask why it was given. Important to my point is that I am certain that ZetaWolf issued the ban, and that no reason was provided. Therefore, I am going to write my personal deductions and conclusions for your consideration. Today, I gave a 1h channel ban on #maleyiff to a user "Deek", for light behavioural misconduct. It was a mutual understanding that the ban would be lifted automatically by my authorised bot (Woofer) after this period, and that it was approved by the channel owner (L0ne_W0lf). I am fairly certain that this is the reason for ZetaWolf's banning of me, for it is I who issued the ban command in the channel. Furthermore, no discussion or warning was issued by the IRCOP that my actions would consequently cause a network ban, today or previously (although I was 'warned', read, threatened, several times in SecondLife for unrelated matters). To my knowledge, it is FurNet policy that IRCOPs do not interfere with channel politics. I am hereby accusing ZetaWolf of: - Not adhering to FurNet policy which as an IRCOP he ought to be responsible for upholding, as expressed on http://www.furnet.org/index.php?page=Furnet%20Code%20of%20Conduct%20for%20IrcOps - Petty personal vendetta, bullying - Abuse of administrative rights - Unfair, prejudicial and immature treatment of other users in matters that are of no direct concern to him. Additionally, this is not the first time this has occurred. I was also issued a 30 day ban from FurNet in 2006 by the same IRCOP for reasons that are similar to the above. ZetaWolf has a personal dislike of me for drawing attention to his tyrranical behaviour, neuroticism, and irresponsibility in areas inside and outside FurNet. He has misused his administrative rights in other communities where he has acquired responsibility, possibly to other users beside me (shortly; anyone who disapproves of him is childishly erased from the area as a form of punishment). ZetaWolf seems to think that it is his right and duty to belittle, patronise and intimidate others in his role as an IRCOP based solely on their personal relationship with him, and that in punishing someone by banning, he is exercising an objective sense of justice - when quite simply, he is casting his puerile revenge on me through his proud and egotistical aggression and clear abuse of his privileges. Furthermore, his incompetence in issuing these bans has inadvertantly denied the access of other unrelated users to FurNet (others accessing through huskion.net, or, as in 2006, any one of a dozen or so users on tpnet.pl, the most popular ISP in Poland). Quite simply, my concern is that ZetaWolf is a *bully* and I am exhausted by him. He has no place being in charge anywhere. My requests are as follows: I would like ZetaWolf to be removed from the ranks of IRCOP and any positions of responsibility he may hold that would allow him to wreak his repeated disgraceful illegitimate transgressions towards users acting fairly, respectfully and in dignity. I would like my access to FurNet restored quickly, and to have some reassurance that an incident like this will not take place again without good reason. I am not a troll nor am I a wrongdoer or a pest, and I have no intention of disrupting the network's services, so I am of the opinion that this should not be a problem. How I operate in a channel in which I have been given a position of trust by its owner should not be the concern of an IRCOP who is not present in the channel. There are users on FurNet that can vouch for my positive behaviour, with names upon request. In conclusion, I invite you to investigate this situation and to come to a decision that is ultimately fair to the greater majority, and I invite anyone else on this list who has any qualms about this particular IRCOP's behaviour to speak up. Yours respectfully, [name_redacted] hostmask ~[address_redacted] _______________________________________________ Furnet-users mailing list http://kinglion.furnet.org/mailman/listinfo/furnet-users
