I'm not sure how to respond to it. :) Maybe: "Yes, I see that you have a few similar interests!", including: business management, having drinks and hanging with friends, people watching, wandering, cooking, scifi/fantasy movies and shows, interesting TV shows, tea, bubble tea, and techy/programmer types excepting: smoking (vaporizer) 420, stoner boys, way higher yiff meter, clingy, and dom/sub/pet - which are all like, "RED FLAGS! RED FLAGS!" -, martial weaponry (although, that one could be an interest if I gave it some time), collecting videos, worldcrafting (not even sure what that is), shopping, mmorpgs, dancing, horror, comic book stores, and coffee. Anyhoo... thanks for the response. :) -- Simba *************** His response ******************************** Subject: Re: Response to your furry personals ad titled 'I wanted to get my teeth whitened, but then I said screw that, I'll just get a tan instead.' Smoking pot is a red flag for the simple reason that it's illegal in most places in this country. If you're willing to break the law to chemically abuse your body in the name of recreation, you're probably willing to blatantly disregard rules, regulations, and laws in other situations. I'm somewhat obsessive compulsive when it comes to "doing what you're supposed to do", and getting involved with drugs for recreational purposes is definitely not "what you're supposed to do". Maybe that's being closed-minded or maybe it's a self-preservation mechanism I've developed to prevent me from getting mixed up with criminals. Now, it would be fully closed-minded of me to come to that conclusion without having at least tried it to see what it was all about. I did try it. To be honest, for me, the ends definitely don't justify the means. I found that it's really not all that it's cracked up to be. I ended up being nauseous and hungry at the same time, which was a total mindfuck in and of itself, and otherwise, it didn't feel much different than being intoxicated with alcohol - another feeling that I'm not overly fond of. I guess I just like to be in complete control of my own functions. Stripping it away with chemicals is uncomfortable for me, not fun. It's all chocked up to personal experience, really. I have a number of friends who do smoke pot, and I've known some of them both before they started getting into it and now while they're continuing with it. It seems to have changed their sense of fun in that it's like they're not enjoying themselves any more unless there's weed involved. That is disappointing to me. I realize that this scenario is not true for every case, it's just my experience and why it throws up red flags. I've also had friends and family members who started out with smoking pot, then moved on to other things, and because they have addiction tendencies, they've managed to ruin their lives by getting mixed up with some pretty shady people, spending too much time in that lifestyle, getting involved with selling/distribution to pay for their habits, getting in trouble with the law, and now are having trouble getting gainful employment because they have a criminal background, so they're stuck in this death spiral/catch 22. Again, I realize that not every case ends up this way, and there are quite a number of highly successful people who also happen to be pot smokers. I just don't like the risks involved for something that I find to be really not worth it. There are plenty of other things that can be done for fulfilling recreation that don't involve breaking any laws, and I'd just rather stick to those things. Having a high sex drive is a red flag because I want sex to be the last thing on a person's mind when it comes to establishing friendly acquaintances. The reason? I don't have much of a sex drive, myself. That's less closed-mindedness and more just a personal preference. It's certainly not a deal-breaker because I think just about everyone else in this world has a higher sex drive than I do. It just causes me to err on the side of caution when it's high enough that it's self-proclaimed. I suppose this one threw up more of a "yellow flag" than a "red flag". I have to fully admit that my aversion to B&D is probably 100% closed-mindedness. I don't understand B&D, and it pretty much freaks me out. If I'm in a relationship, I want the roles to be equal. In the bedroom, if that's your and your partner's thing, go for it. I'm not going to fault you for it. It's when I see people being led around on leashes and/or being overtly sub-y/dom-y out in the public at conventions or whereever that makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up and make me want to get far away from it. It just makes me uncomfortable and I can't really pinpoint why. I have to equate it to a phobia in that regard. Because it's bordering on phobia, it sends up a red flag and, you're right, it's pretty closed-minded. I'm human. I'm not perfect. :) -- Simba ******************** His response ****************************** -- Subject: Re: Response to your furry personals ad titled 'I wanted to get my teeth whitened, but then I said screw that, I'll just get a tan instead.' From: "Electronicoffee" <> Date: Fri, 11 Sep 2009 15:39:09 -0500 To: Simba <> Well I'm certainly not looking for a human. That's your first assumption :) Super human, subhuman, demi human.. I'm fine with all of those, even Cylon? Half human too. Secondly, your rant about pot 'abusing' your body cries of propagandist crap. There is not a single non-bias, double-blind study that shows marijuana damages the body. Abuse implies damage, and I'm not going to argue semantics. As far as your nausea, that only happens when a. you're a first time or rare user, and b. if you smoke far too much than your current tolerance is at, c. just because your friends are burnouts does not mean that there are many, many pot smokers out there who use their high productively, or in my case (besides that point), relieves physical tension from my anxiety disorder. Secondly, if you're really that scared of being tied up, spanked, or licked all over. You're a fucking prude. Have a good time, because you certainly need the luck. Oh yeah, and a low sex drive, is pretty sad. In males under 30, it's shown to be a sign of low testosterone production. I'd get my nuts checked. -Rick PS: Funny, I've never met a republican furry. ****************** My response *************************** Subject: Re: Response to your furry personals ad titled 'I wanted to get my teeth whitened, but then I said screw that, I'll just get a tan instead.' Well, I live in the real world. Best of luck to you finding someone who isn't human by way of a personals site on the Internet on planet Earth in this dimension. :D > Secondly, your rant about pot 'abusing' your body cries of propagandist crap. There is not a single non-bias, double-blind study > that shows marijuana damages the body. I very specifically didn't use the word "damage". It alters the body's chemistry and brain chemistry or else people wouldn't do it. Even if it's only temporary, that particular alteration is what I don't like and there's no need for it. It has nothing to do with "damage". I'm also not trying to convince you to stop. You asked why it was a red flag for me, and I told you. > As far as your nausea, that only happens when a. you're a first time > or rare user, and b. if you smoke far too much than your current tolerance is at, *shrugs* It still didn't help convince me that what I was doing was "fun". > c. just because your friends are burnouts does not mean that there are many, many pot smokers out there who use their high productively This is why I precluded my statements with phrases like, "in my experience" and followed them up with statements such as "I realize that not every case ends up this way". Again, in my experience, the number of people, that I know personally, to whom controlled substance use has affected in a negative way, overall, is greater than the number of ones who it hasn't. > or in my case (besides that point), relieves physical tension from my > anxiety disorder. Medical use is not recreational use. I also was very careful to specify "recreational" and "for fun" when describing pot use in my last e-mail. If your anxiety disorder is legitimate and isn't a withdrawal symptom (chicken and egg scenario - which came first? The anxiety disorder or the pot use), then I'd have less of an issue with that scenario. And, really, my aversion just stems from the fact that I care a lot about the people that are close to me and I don't like to see them hurting themselves, even if the "hurt" isn't directly caused by the substance itself, but is more of an ancillary negative effect on their personality or other things in their life. > Secondly, if you're really that scared of being tied up, spanked, or > licked all over. You're a fucking prude. Have a good time, because you certainly need the luck. Think about that for a minute. What you're saying is, "You don't share my kink therefore you're a prude!" Well, if that's true, yes. I'm a prude. Thanks for pointing it out. Yes, I'm scared of being tied up. Logically, I think it's a pretty natural, instinctual response. Look at what happens when you try to corner, tie down, or otherwise immobilize a wild animal. I invite you to try it with a lion. I bet that it won't work out well for you. I'm scared of being spanked because being spanked is associated with having done something wrong and feeling guilty about it. I don't like that feeling, therefore I don't like being spanked. Since the golden rule applies, I wouldn't want to inflict that feeling on another, either. Being licked all over... well... by itself, that would be fine. :) > Oh yeah, and a low sex drive, is pretty sad. In males under 30, it's > shown to be a sign of low testosterone production. I'd get my nuts checked. I've had my nuts checked, actually, and they're fine. Feel free to check them, yourself, if you'd like. I don't find the low drive to be sad. I find it to be a sign of self control, which I consider to be more of a strength than a weakness. I probably should have qualified my "low drive" statements by mentioning that a drive is there, but I don't let it rule my decisions. It's kept firmly in check - mainly 'cause I'm terrified of it. I'm terrified of my own inexperience and awkwardness that it would cause. I'm terrified of disease and exchange of bodily fluids. Because of all of that, it's really one of the last things on my mind in social situations, even one-on-one. > PS: Funny, I've never met a republican furry. One, I know several republican furries and would be happy to introduce you to them if you'd like. Two, What makes you think I'm republican? I voted for Obama and I voted against Florida's Amendment 2, which had the "One Man, One Woman" definition of marriage. Both of those actions seemed to be the "democrat" stance, even though less regulation, which is what a "No" vote on Amendment 2 would accomplish, is actually a "conservative government" stance and, by definition, should align with the republican party. Unfortunately, religion seems to have aligned itself on the republican side, and therefore it doesn't necessarily have to mean "conservative" any more since religion tends to dictate ridiculous regulations on things. But, anyway, I'm more of a centrist, and evaluate each issue individually. -- Simba
