You really shouldn't have to worry about that whatsoever. A strong
relationship is built upon openness-- meaning you should be able to
talk about your problems, whatever they may be, in an open fashion
without having to worry about reprimand by either party.
Depression is a normal, human condition. Typically, a solution to this
is to vent in some way or another, to air the issues you may be having
with another party. If you have a lover, typically it will be them,
because you can trust them to understand you, your situation and not
judge you for whatever your depression may be. You may also confide
your depression in a close friend.
If your mate is mature enough, he's not going to freak out if you tell
him you're depressed. If, however, he immediately concludes that
depression is equivalent to suicide (which would explain his potential
panic), you should inform him otherwise, because this is a poisonous
mentality. Otherwise this may be indicative of a larger, more
encompassing problem in your mutual relationship.
